Archimedes the Parrot.
By Pree on the Midnight Ocean

Here's the materials I used, I ended up not using half of what's shown in the picture >.> And I substituted some other stuff (shown in material shot 2)

This is what I used from the first 2 pics.
1. Newspapers
2. 2 Feather Boa's (I only had em in black and white, I SO wanted them to be maroon and navy :S)
3. A scarrrrf
4. A panty hose
5. Satay (?) sticks.. No idea how to call those in english o.o It's them sticks you can put meat on to roast it :S
6. One horn of a bull(?) shaped old furry slipper
7. Cleaning cloth
8. Wool 9. Tape and glue
10. Needle and thread (not shown)
11. Last but not least, and I forgot to take a pic of em, I used the clamps of a clotheshanger (one meant to hang up pants)

Step 1,2:

I used the newspapers to wad up and shape the body. After I had the desired shape I taped the ends of the newspapers so they wouldn't leave ugly wrinkles. Then I used the panty hose as a covering for the newspapers and to give the construction a bit of extra shape and firmness.

Step 3,4,5:

This was a fun one, I unplucked both boa's.. feathers EVERYwhere.. Then I glued the feathers onto the panty hose covering the body and head. Added some wool to make sure theyd stay where I intended them. I also temporarily attached the clamps of the clothes hanger (by means of stringing them to 2 satay sticks each and sticking that in archimedes's tushy >.>) Now Archimedes starts to take shape :) (still headless though)

Step 6,7,8,9:
Then I went on to construct Archi's wings. Again I started out by wadding newspapers in the desired shape and putting some panty hose around it. I cut out the scarf in the general shape of the wings and sowed that to the panty. As a finishing touch I sewed a bundle of left-over feathers to the tips of the wings. In this stage I also made Archi's beak, of which I alas have no pics.. simply because I forgotted >:| What I did was cut off one of the horns of my slipper. Because it was the wrong colour I took a cleaning cloth, drew out the shape of the horn on two pieces of said cleaning cloth and sewed them together to snuggly fit the horn. After that, I glued/sewed the beak to his head.

Step 10,11:
I made little `balls` from the leftover panty, stuck in a piece of satay stick and jammed that in Archi´s head to make eyes. At this point I realised I also had to attach Archi's wings and head to his body as well >.< So i took the rest of the satay sticks and porcupined Archimedes and stuck the extremities to his body ^.^ It looked as if he met up with Vlad the Impaler, lol.

And behold, an Archimedes is born :) Here´s Archi posing on the laptop, shown form the side (to prove he "perches")

And 1 from the front, just cos he's pretty :P

And 1 glamour shot to prove he "perches" on my shoulder as well.

Great project! I had so much fun :)
